Principle Cleaning is one of the UK’s largest and most widely respected cleaning contractors. With an annual turnover approaching £60m and close to 2500 employees, Principle operates in London and the South East, providing cleaning, window cleaning, grounds maintenance and a variety of other soft services to clients that include some of the City’s most recognisable buildings.
Like many other rapidly-expanding contractors, Principle’s directors felt that the larger the company grew, the more clarity and control it needed over key cost elements. In particular, the company’s operations teams wanted greater transparency across their pay budgets and the ability to monitor wage variance in real-time during the current pay period, rather than having to wait until just before the pay run to analyse and reconcile variances.
The directors also wanted closer control over the one-off work, notably window cleaning, periodics and post-build cleans that represents a sizeable portion of Principle’s business. However, the company’s existing combination of spreadsheets and software systems used to manage this work, including Cleanlink and Sage, meant it wasn’t easy to budget hours against individual jobs, or track the scheduling, completion and invoicing of work.
As a result, in 2018 Principle embarked on a search to find an integrated contract management system that would not only enhance their financial controls, but would provide a stable foundation for the continuing growth of the business. Principle appointed a project manager for both the search and implementation phase and, having assessed five different systems over a period of several months, they selected TemplaCMS to deliver their requirements. Principle have initially licensed the TemplaCMS Core System of ten modules including Pay, Billing, Workbills, Stores Control, Budgets and Analytics.
